Review: The Trial – Franz Kafka

January 12, 2010

6/52 the trial - franz kafka i cottoned onto what kafka was doing fairly early in this one. maybe i’ve been affected by the past century of literature but i understood quickly that society was the body putting josef k. on trial. either way, kafka was masterful with his language in that he allowed breathing room when k. was relaxed but quickly brought the tension back in once it became evident nothing was as it seemed. whether this was an allegory for the direction our society was heading in kafka’s mind or not, it was a nice read, dense with lots of ideas on what a modern, bureaucratic society might ultimately end up as. i will be reading at least metamorphosis at some point during the year, if not the castle as well.52 in 52 Progress – 6/52
